SACRAMENTO - Less than two months after a Napa State Hospital patient strangled an employee to death, another patient has beaten an employee unconscious, inflicting four skull fractures in the process. In response State Senator Noreen Evans and Assemblymember Michael Allen issued the following joint statement:

“We absolutely condemn violence occurring in any of our State’s institutions and are committed to taking swift action to make Napa State Hospital a secure environment for all its staff and patients. We have met with employee groups and are appalled at the terror that they are made to encounter. We are in the process of scheduling a hospital tour and in-depth meeting with administrators and will invite both Governor Schwarzenegger and Governor-Elect Brown. It is our hope that either Schwarzenegger or Brown will use the power of the Governor’s Office to immediately allocate the necessary resources to secure the hospital. We are committed to working with the Hospital’s administration, employee groups, and the Governor’s Office to craft a long-term solution that ensures the safety of all at Napa State Hospital.”
