March 29 Town Hall will update community on progress made since meeting last fall

Eureka, CA – Last November, Senator Mike McGuire and Humboldt County Supervisor Virginia Bass brought the community together for a collaborative conversation about the opioid crisis at home and across the state to kick off the discussion that would advance potential solutions on the North Coast.

The opioid crisis has hit California hard, and in Humboldt County the impact is even more devastating — the county has the second highest rate of opioid overdoses in the state per capita.

This Thursday’s hearing will be focused on California’s multibillion dollar fishery and aquaculture industry and potential exterior threats such as President Trump’s Offshore Oil drilling proposals and potential impacts from climate change

Lakeport, CA – For the past three decades, Deputy Sheriff Robert Rumfelt worked tirelessly to protect and serve his country and the greater Lake County community. After graduating from Clear Lake High School, he answered the call to serve our nation by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and earned numerous accolades for his honor, courage and commitment. Deputy Rumfelt continued serving when he was hired by the City of Lakeport as a Police Officer in 1995 and then as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Lake County in 2014.

Sacramento, CA – In response to the devastating Helena Fire that hit the community of Junction City last fall, Senator Mike McGuire, The Humboldt Area Foundation, the County of Trinity, the Trinity Journal, Trinity County Supervisor Judy Morris and Humboldt County Supervisor Rex Bohn came together to establish the Trinity County Fire Relief Fund. And now, the fund has reached a major milestone – $100,000, four times the Fund’s original goal of $25,000! The Humboldt Area Foundation is covering all administration and transaction costs.
