McGuire’s 6th annual Humboldt Holiday Food Drive wraps up Wednesday with big drive through donation event!

North Coast, CA – For six years, Senator Mike McGuire has teamed up with Food For People, KHUM radio and six local high schools for the annual Humboldt Holiday Food Drive.

And, this year represents one of the most critical yet. As the pandemic grew, so did hunger, and Food For People is facing a crushing need.

“Every year, Humboldt County has stepped up and the generosity has been overflowing, particularly from the thousands of high school students we partner with. That said, we’re asking folks to dig deep this season because the need is even greater due to the pandemic. We hope folks will join us this Wednesday afternoon from 3-6pm at the Eureka Safeway to drop off nonperishable food and funds benefiting Humboldt’s Food Bank, Food For People.”

Prior to the pandemic hitting, Food for People was helping to feed 12,000 of our neighbors every month. Now, because of the devastating impacts of COVID-19, 16,000 of our neighbors depend on Food for People to help put food on the table. The need is especially great for thousands of kids.

All six high schools (Eureka, McKinleyville, Arcata, Fortuna, Ferndale and St. Bernard’s) have held various kick off events and food drop-offs, produced videos, made commercials and rallied their classmates to participate in any way they could.

The schools will be dropping off all of their collected food on Wednesday, December 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. during the Humboldt Holiday Food Drive. The public is also encouraged to drop off their own donations of food and funds at the Eureka Safeway or donate online at FoodForPeople.org.
