Senator McGuire Helps to Secure Funding for Popular Trinity Lake Boat Ramp

Trinity Center, CA – Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire has helped to secure an additional $165,000 in state funds to launch the Minersville boat ramp replacement project on Trinity Lake. The funds will be dispersed from the State Division of Boating and Waterways.

The boat ramp project has been delayed for several years due to increased costs in engineering and construction, but the additional funding will allow the boat ramp replacement to move forward.

“Boating and outdoor recreation are essential to the culture and economy in Trinity County and we need to get this project over the finish line,” said Senator McGuire. “Bottom line: This project needs to move! We couldn’t be more thrilled that the funding has been secured through Boating and Waterwayswhich will close the financial gap and finally let us kickoff construction.”

Located on the Stuart Fork Arm of Trinity Lake in the Minersville Campground, the boat ramp is popular with boaters, anglers, and campers. After 40 years, however, the asphalt ramp has deteriorated and in need of major upgrades. It’s also the only low water ramp on Trinity Lake, which allows boats to launch late in the season.

In 2018, the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways approved $245,000 to cover the design and engineering work for the ramp. But the cost of supplies and labor have increased since and bid after bid came in too high. Seeing the project stalled, Trinity County Supervisor Jill Cox reached out to Senator McGuire for help in securing the additional funding necessary to get the project off the ground.

“This project is so important to Trinity County and I knew Senator McGuire would come through for us,” said Supervisor Cox. “Access to the lake benefits locals and visitors alike, along with our county’s economic vitality. We couldn’t be more excited to see it kicked off!

Construction on the boat ramp is set to begin in 2025. Boating and Waterways has allocated $4.85 million for the project overall, which will include ramp replacement with a wider, concrete boat ramp, turnarounds and a sidewalk; new restrooms; a dual cable anchor system; and designated parking area.
