SB 1229 to Help Recruit 10,000 Mental Health Clinicians for California Schools

Sacramento, CA – Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond will host a virtual press conference at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, to highlight the desperate need for additional mental health support for California’s students, and a plan to address the mental health staffing shortage in our schools.

Sacramento, CA – The State of California’s payment processing system - responsible for paying hundreds of thousands of caregivers each month  –  has experienced significant failures and delays of payment to some of the hardest working, lowest paid employees each month for several years.

Approximately 14,000 In-Home Support Service workers time sheets are rejected by the State of California’s payment system every month resulting in devastating delays of the providers’ monthly paycheck.

Sacramento, CA – In response to California’s Auditor declaring last month that all levels of government in California have “failed to adequately oversee the prescription of psychotropic medications to children in foster care” and it disclosed a system-wide failure regarding the tracking of psychotropic medication patterns, an oversight hearing in the State Capitol will be held to officially present the findings and begin to outline solutions.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire (D-North Coast), chairman of the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture, will open Wednesday’s “Fish, Flows and Marijuana Grows” hearing to examine the impacts of the historic drought and marijuana grows on the state’s fisheries and natural resources.

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. this Wednesday, July 1 in Room 2040 at the State Capitol in Sacramento. It will also be livestreamed on the Senate’s website, which can be found at www.senate.ca.gov under “Today’s Events.”

Eureka — State Senator Mike McGuire is excited to announce that he will host his first annual Town Hall Meeting in Eureka in just two weeks!

The interactive Town Hall will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.  The event will be an opportunity to discuss and receive updates on the top issues facing Eureka, Humboldt County and Northern California residents.
