The Special Districts Transparency Act passed Senate Governance and Finance committee today

Sacramento – California has over 2,000 independent special districts that operate a slew of vital services for millions of Californians, such as water, wastewater, fire protection, parks, and transit. However, less than half of all special districts have websites. This presents a significant transparency gap for the millions who are served by these districts.

Eureka, CA – Last November, Senator Mike McGuire and Humboldt County Supervisor Virginia Bass brought the community together for a collaborative conversation about the opioid crisis at home and across the state to kick off the discussion that would advance potential solutions on the North Coast.

The opioid crisis has hit California hard, and in Humboldt County the impact is even more devastating — the county has the second highest rate of opioid overdoses in the state per capita.

This Thursday’s hearing will be focused on California’s multibillion dollar fishery and aquaculture industry and potential exterior threats such as President Trump’s Offshore Oil drilling proposals and potential impacts from climate change
