Senator McGuire’s Statement on CA’s over $9 billion economic stimulus
Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire issued the following statement on California’s massive $9.6 billion economic stimulus deal that was announced today by the State Legislature and Governor Newsom.
“California’s landmark economic recovery package will help benefit millions of working families and seniors along with investing heavily in small business recovery. This is California's largest economic recovery package in a generation and it will be a desperately needed shot in the arm for local communities by investing billions in small business grants and advancing PPP loan conformity with state income taxes. The package will put food on the table for families and our most vulnerable neighbors, help them pay their bills, support farmworkers impacted by Covid-19, fund food bank operations and support our colleges by restoring past cuts to the UC and CSU system.
“It has been nearly a year since our state’s first wave of pandemic-induced business closures, lost jobs, lost dreams, illness and heartache – the realities California families have faced this year have been nearly unbearable. But we will persevere and we will lift each other up in our greatest time of need. That is what we do in California and this economic stimulus is one important step in our collective Golden State recovery.”
As a member of the Senate Budget Committee, McGuire will be supporting this economic stimulus package in Committee tomorrow, and it will be voted on next week by the full Senate and Assembly before going to the Governor for his signature.
