MENDOCINO COUNTY–In rural Covelo, the risk of wildfire is higher than in 92% of communities nationwide. Yet, fire hydrants were never installed in the community. This reality has delayed fire suppression efforts for local structure fires, prevented rebuilding after a fire, and impacted insurance rates in the commercial district and throughout the community.

SANTA ROSA—With the urgent need for more firefighters across California, Senator Mike McGuire (D-North Coast) has secured the final $1 million needed to finish construction of a state-of-the-art firefighter training tower for Santa Rosa Junior College’s (SRJC) Fire Academy, one of the largest in the region.
