Senator McGuire’s statement on funding for Sonoma Marin Narrows

Sacramento, CA – Senator McGuire released the following statement in response to the California Transportation Commission’s vote to invest $85 million in the Sonoma Marin Narrows:

“For decades, residents have been stuck in traffic at the bottleneck of the Narrows and this funding is critical to advancing a big fix to a daily mind numbing commute.

“We know there’s more work ahead to get three lanes all the way to Novato and to the Sonoma County line and we’re committed to getting the job done,” Senator Mike McGuire said. “Thank you to the California Transportation Commission for the partnership and funding and to the Secretary of Transportation for touring the corridor and understanding the need of North Bay residents. We are truly grateful.”

This is the last major source of funds needed to complete construction of a third lane on both the north and south bound segments of Highway 101 in Sonoma County.

McGuire continues to work with the Transportation Authority Marin and state transportation officials on the costs associated with engineering studies and future construction of a third lane that would be built between Novato and the Sonoma County line.
