Senate passes resolution to name portion of Hwy 101 in Del Norte County after the legendary Harold Del Ponte
Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire passed Resolution 124 – with bipartisan support - to honor the life and service of Harold Del Ponte by renaming a portion of Highway 101 in his honor in beautiful Del Norte County.
“Mr. Del Ponte was beloved by the community, and has been recognized for over 50 years of service that goes above and beyond the call of duty to the County of Del Norte,” Senator Mike McGuire said during the Senate Floor Presentation. “We are honored to work with his family and the State of California to honor his outstanding leadership, tireless service and commitment to the North Coast.”
Harold Del Ponte, a Del Norte native, spent his life serving the hard-working residents of Del Norte and the entire North Coast. Del Ponte was extremely active in his community, serving with multiple local boards and organizations during his life.
He was the longest-serving member of the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors and also served on the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Del Norte Planning Commission, two Chambers of Commerce, and the Del Norte County Farm Bureau.
The portion of Highway 101 that will be renamed the Harold Del Ponte Memorial Highway begins at the south county line of Del Norte, bordered by Humboldt County, and will continue north for two miles.
SCR 124 will now move to the State Assembly for potential approval.
