Senator McGuire, Members of Legislature, Send Letter to Governor Urging CA to Pull National Guard From the

Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire and more than two dozen fellow California State Legislators sent a letter to Governor Jerry Brown this week urging him to recall the National Guard from the border and not take any part in President Trump’s inhumane, zero-tolerance policy separating children from their parents.

“The Trump administration’s heartless and expanded policy of separating children from families arriving at the border is cruel, inhumane and indecent, even by President Trump’s standards,” Senator Mike McGuire said. “It is true that we need comprehensive immigration reform – reform that has been blocked at every step of the way by the President. But the tragedy unfolding before us right now is a humanitarian crisis that must be stopped. These children cannot wait on congressional gridlock, partisan politics or the cynical gamesmanship of this President and his accomplices. The State of California should not take part in any way that contributes to this dark chapter of our history and should immediately pull our National Guard troops from the border.”

Other states that have already pulled their National Guard troops, including states that are led by both Republican and Democratic Governors, include: Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina, while Colorado, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Oregon have refused to send troops.

The letter from California Legislators is attached.
