Sacramento, CA –During an emotional and informative Senate Human Services oversight hearing on the over-prescription of psychotropic drugs among California’s foster care youth, Senator Mike McGuire declared that the state must to do a better job of protecting its most vulnerable children.




Sacramento, CA – State Senator Mike McGuire introduced legislation this week to protect old growth redwoods -- the tallest trees on the planet – and put a stop to the devastating  practice of burl theft  from our state and national parks and California’s forests. Burls – the dormant, knobby material that grows at the base of redwood trees – are the primary method of redwood tree regeneration. When burls are hacked away, it significantly injures, and can actually kill the state’s beloved old growth redwoods.




Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire co-authored legislation introduced this week to help rural counties recover more than a decade worth of payment in lieu of taxes (PILT) from the state.

Small, rural counties with tax-exempt state land miss out on taxes they would otherwise be paid for the property. Instead, the state is obligated to make payments in lieu of taxes (PILT) to help counties recover the lost property tax revenue. The state more than $19 million in PILT obligations to counties across the state, for funds they have not been paid over the last several years.




Eureka — State Senator Mike McGuire is excited to announce that he will host his first annual Town Hall Meeting in Eureka in just two weeks!

The interactive Town Hall will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.  The event will be an opportunity to discuss and receive updates on the top issues facing Eureka, Humboldt County and Northern California residents.
