Senate Leader McGuire, Budget Chair Wiener Issue Statement on Governor Newsom’s May Revision to State Budget
SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire (D-North Coast) and Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee Chair Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s May revision to the proposed state budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year:
“While this is a tough budget year, the Legislature and Governor have been working together over the past few months – buckling down to deliver a balanced, on-time budget. We’ve already made progress on shrinking the shortfall through our Early Action Agreement – $17 billion was slashed from the upcoming fiscal year deficit. And we’ve been in active discussions over the past many weeks to get this budget across the finish line with Speaker Rivas, and back to the Governor for final action.
“For years, the Senate has delivered budgets that have uplifted communities and Californians – this year will be no different. No matter what, we’re going to deliver for the people of the Golden State.”
