Senator McGuire and First 5 come back together for Town Hall Update on Adverse Childhood Experiences
Sacramento, CA – While there is a lot more work ahead, much has been accomplished in the 18 months since Senator McGuire, First 5 Humboldt and state and local leaders gathered for a town hall to discuss reports detailing the impacts that adverse childhood experiences have on Humboldt County’s kids.
Since then, First 5 Humboldt has partnered with community organizations and local leaders to tackle the issue. Later this month, Senator McGuire and First 5 are teaming up again for an important forum to discuss the community response and initiatives that have been launched to positively change the lives of some of Humboldt’s most vulnerable kids.
“While we have a lot of work in front of us, the community has come together and rallied around our kids. Numerous community organizations have taken action since our last Town Hall and have begun to advance solutions on some of the biggest drivers of Adverse Childhood Experiences. We are grateful to be coming back together with First 5 Humboldt, who have been spearheading this community-wide movement, to provide an important update,” Senator Mike McGuire said.
Humboldt County has some of the highest rates of ACEs in California, which is why the Senator and First 5 are teaming up for this important forum on April 27. The town hall will feature presentations from community leaders on trauma informed care programs and community action teams, as well as an update from the county on reforms taking place following the Attorney General’s report on Humboldt County Child Welfare.
“Several innovative programs and initiatives serving young children are moving forward throughout Humboldt County. We are grateful and excited to come back together with Senator McGuire to highlight those who are taking the lead, as well as to discuss other areas where our children need support,” said First 5 Executive Director Mary Ann Hansen.
