Sacramento, CA – On Wednesday, during a public meeting of the California State Boating and Waterways Commission, held in Weaverville, a $1.64 million state grant was approved for long-term improvements at the Trinity Center boat ramp.

Senator Mike McGuire has continued to advocate for critical state grant funding to improve boat access on Trinity Lake – one of the county’s main economic drivers – and is thrilled to see the grant approved.

“We have been working hard with the Division of Boating and Waterways to prioritize improvement projects on Trinity Lake, this investment will be a huge shot in the arm for the Lake’s infrastructure,” Senator McGuire said. “These dollars will improve visitor accommodations, expand capacity and boaters will see a significant improvement because the entire ramp will be resurfaced.”

In 2015, Senator McGuire’s office hosted representatives from the Division of Boating and Waterways at Trinity Lake. One of the projects they inspected was the Trinity Center Boat Ramp. The grant funding was allocated last year in the state budget but needed official approval yesterday from the Commission. The project received unanimous support.

This grant will cover costs associated with reconstructing the parking lot to allow for better parking of vehicles with trailers, update the bathroom facilities and repave the boat ramp to allow for double lane traffic where only single lane traffic is currently available.  A new floating courtesy dock would also be placed in the water that will rise and fall with the height of the lake.

“Trinity Lake has been one of our highest priorities, and we’re excited to see the progress that’s being made that will benefit the Trinity Lake experience and our local economy,” Senator McGuire said.

The National Forest Service’s goal is to move the project forward this summer.
