Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León to several influential committee assignments to kick off the 2017-2018 legislative year, including taking over as Chairperson of the Governance and Finance Committee, which is responsible for hearing all legislation related to state and local government and special district revenue, taxes, all land use and development policy. The committee is considered one of the busiest in the Senate.

He was also appointed to the powerful Budget and Fiscal Review Committee and the Budget Subcommittee on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy and Transportation. This budget subcommittee oversees the budgets of major state agencies and initiatives including the Department of Fish & Wildlife, CalTrans, Department of Water Resources, and the California Public Utilities Commission. Senator McGuire will also be continuing his role in Democratic Party Leadership as Vice Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus; and a member of the Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee; and the Transportation and Housing Committee.
