Senator McGuire - A Familiar Face in Humboldt County
Eureka, CA – Knowing that Humboldt County and the North Coast need strong representation in the Capitol, State Senator Mike McGuire is pleased to be making his fourth trip here in the six weeks since he was sworn into office.
McGuire will start his Humboldt tour here in Eureka today and will be on the North Coast till Saturday the 10th. He’ll meet with numerous individuals and groups, including people who need help with state agencies, local business leaders, and elected officials looking at ways to create more job opportunities for Humboldt residents.
“We have to do better for the North Coast,” said McGuire. “Making sure that our rural economies aren’t left behind is my priority in the Senate. Our unemployment is still too high, and we need to find ways to create new and better opportunities for people here.”
Also on the agenda are meetings with education leaders, law enforcement, local court officials, healthcare and human services professionals. As the newly appointed chairman of the Senate’s Human Services Committee, McGuire is eager to discuss steps that can be taken to combat Humboldt’s mental health and homeless crisis.
The Senator will also be meeting with state park officials, and with representatives from the local Caltrans office to talk about transportation issues like the growing need to repair highway infrastructure and a permanent solution to the Last Chance Grade in Del Norte County.
