Sacramento, CA – California is facing unprecedented, destructive wildfires – 14 of the largest 20 wildfires in California history have occurred just in the last decade. Some of these horribly destructive wildfires have been set by arsonists.

Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire’s bipartisan legislation on aggravated arson, SB 281 – will throw the book at individuals who are convicted of aggravated arson. The bill overwhelmingly passed the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday with a bipartisan vote. This is an issue that Senator McGuire has championed for years.

Trinity Center, CA – Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire has helped to secure an additional $165,000 in state funds to launch the Minersville boat ramp replacement project on Trinity Lake. The funds will be dispersed from the State Division of Boating and Waterways.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire introduced legislation this week that would ensure survivors of the devastating 2019 Kincade Fire will be exempt from paying state income taxes on settlement awards from PG&E. The 2019 fire, which was sparked by a faulty PG&E transmission line, forced nearly 100,000 people to flee, and destroyed 174 homes.

Humboldt County – Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire, Assemblymember Jim Wood, the State Office of Emergency Services and the California Department of Housing & Community Development have announced $3 million in available funding to aid residents impacted by the December 20 and January 1 earthquakes. The relief funds will focus on those most in need and help communities get back on their feet.
